Day 1:

Depart on a flight to Kochi, located on the west coast of India.

Day 2: Kochi

Arrive in Kochi, India's city of peninsulas and islands and the commercial hub of Kerala.

Day 3: Kochi/Vembanad Lake

This morning, tour Fort Kochi, St. Francis Church, Dutch Palace and the Jewish Synagogue. After lunch, transfer to your individual kettuvallam (rice barge). Two boatmen using punting poles propel the palm-covered kettuvallam gently through the backwaters of Kerala, a truly unforgettable experience.

Day 4: Vembanad Lake/Kumarakom

After breakfast, disembark the houseboat in Kumarakom at your next destination's jetty. The remainder of the day is at leisure to relax at the resort, stroll along the shores of Vembanad Lake or enjoy an Ayurvedic spa treatment at your deluxe resort.

Day 5: Kumarakom

An early morning nature tour introduces you to both resident and migratory birds around the banks of Vembanad Lake. Then travel through lush backwaters by private boat to the Spice Plantation Farmhouse for lunch with the owner and his family.

Day 6: Kumarakom/Kochi/Mumbai

Travel to Kochi for a flight to Mumbai. The afternoon is at leisure.

Day 7: Mumbai

A privately chartered cruise through Mumbai Harbour brings you to the rock-cut cave temples on Elephanta Island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This afternoon, visit the Prince of Wales Museum to view its excellent collection of ancient Indus Valley artifacts, in addition to priceless Tibetan and Nepalese art. Continue to the Gateway of India, an 85-foot-high arch on the harbor, and Mani Bhawan, the former residence of Mahatma Gandhi. Here you see a reference library with more than 2,000 books, a photo exhibition of Gandhi's life and an old charkha (spinning wheel) that Gandhi used. Afterward, view the colossal Dhobi Ghat, Mumbai's outdoor hand laundry.

Day 8: Mumbai/Udaipur

Fly to Udaipur; then travel to the Aravali Hills to your spectacular fort-palace hotel. Enjoy an evocative visit to the temples of Eklingji and Nagda.

Day 9: Udaipur

Spend a full day in the lovely city of Udaipur. Visit the City Palace; take a private tour of the Crystal Gallery; and visit Sahelion Ki Bari, the "Garden of the Maids of Honor." Later, cruise Lake Pichola (water levels permitting) and view the city of Udaipur as it rises majestically above the lake in the middle of the Rajasthan desert. Your cruise also includes a stop at the island palace of Jag Mandir. Later, enjoy a sunset camel safari in the Aravali Hills.

Day 10: Udaipur/Jaipur/Alwar

This morning's flight brings you to Jaipur for a day of exploration. Visit the spectacular outdoor Jantar Mantar Observatory, which houses precise instruments for measuring and calculating the sun's position and Hindu calendar. View Jaipur's most famous building, the pink sandstone Hawa Mahal, or "Palace of the Winds." Then explore the Amber Fort and stop at a local Indian village for an elephant ride with a skilled mahout. After lunch, travel to Alwar and your spectacular resort.

Day 11: Alwar

The morning is free to enjoy the facilities and activities of your resort. This afternoon, travel by resort jeep to Bhangarh to view the splendid ruins of this now uninhabited city. Then proceed to the surrounding villages for a glimpse of local life.

Day 12: Alwar/Agra

Travel overland through rural India, stopping at Fatehpur Sikri, built to be Emperor Akbar's capital and palace in the late 16th century. Continue to the Bulund Darwaza, largest gateway in the world. This evening, visit the spectacular Taj Mahal at sunset.

Day 13: Agra/Delhi

After greeting the sunrise at the Taj Mahal, visit the Agra Fort. Then travel overland toward Delhi, stopping en route at Sikandra, the tomb of the great Mughal emperor Akbar.

Day 14: Delhi

This morning, enjoy a sightseeing tour of Old Delhi that includes a visit to Jama Masjid mosque and a rickshaw ride through Chandni Chowk bazaar, with views of the Red Fort and Raj Ghat. After lunch, visit Qutub Minar, Humayun's Tomb, Rajpath and the India Gate. This evening, bid farewell to your fellow travellers over dinner.

Day 15: Delhi

Transfer to the airport to board a homebound flight.
